Liebster

Ginger tagged me with the Liebster Blog Award! :D Why thank you. I must now post 11 facts about myself, answer Ginger's 11 questions, and ask 11 bloggers 11 questions of my own.

Just the Facts
1. Really, all I've ever wanted was to be immersed in words. {Anyone who knows me knows that that sentence is somewhat of a lie; I've wanted a jillion other things, but the SPIRIT of that sentence is true.} Well, that dream is increasingly coming true! With the combination of school work and leisure activities, words make up like 12 hours of my day these days.

2. I got a text from someone today that was just a smiley face, and for the first time in my life, I didn't feel slighted. I just smiled to myself.

3. I wrote a midterm paper in one day this week, and I am completely confident about it. First time I've a) done a midterm paper in one day, and b) not been freaking out about a midterm paper. Not sure if I'm getting the hang of college, or just living in a fantasy world XD

4. I acquired Batman footie pajamas this week. And other assorted mind-boggling surprise blessings.

5. I almost didn't get paid for working all this semester so far because I'm lazy and retarded and didn't do my paperwork. But Student Services is giving me a break. Thank God.

6. My roommate just had a baby. She's been pregnant for nine months (obviously) and I didn't know. In my defense, she tried really hard to hide it. She wore huge clothes and complained about gaining belly weight and told absolutely no one (not even her own mother). I had my suspicions, but she kept denying that she was pregnant and I wasn't gonna call her a liar... I thought this stuff only happened in soap operas.

7. I just finished the book "The Casual Vacancy" by J. K. Rowling. It was really good, but complex and sort of vulgar to a distasteful extreme. But by the end, I could respect it. She IS an incredible writer.

8. I made my whole Brit Lit class laugh today. It was review day, and I asked "What do we need to know about the author bios?"

"Everything," he said plainly, in his direct, immediate, challenging way.

I held his gaze and gave it a second before saying, "No but really." And everyone just cracked up--including him. And then he answered me for real.

9.  I have a massive crush on the above professor.

10. I know a guy with a voice like Chris Hemsworth's. He sits next to me in logic class and asked me to breakfast with him last week.

11. I'm sitting in the tutoring center, listening to a guy tutor this girl in Western Civ, the subject I also tutor. He is way better at it than me.

Ginger's Eleven Questions
(1). What song is stuck in your head at the moment?
Lady GaGa's "Edge of Glory." And I could not be more unhappy about or bewildered by this.

(2). How many languages can you speak?
Just English, and mediocre Spanish. I can read Latin and Spanish fairly well.

(3). Do you believe in any conspiracy theories or other debatable phenomena?
Not even a little bit.

(4). What would you study/train to become if college was free and you could be guaranteed an ideal job afterwards?
:O Oh my gosh. What a fun question. Except...huh. I think I'd just be doing this o_o I'd be an English major, hoping to write and fight for truth. How satisfying :)

(5). Which job would you be least suited to?
A surgeon. I'm bad with maps, so it makes sense to me that I might accidentally cut out someone's kidney instead of their liver or something.

(6). Which places in your own country would you love to go, but just haven't gotten around to?
My friend Gabe is always talking about this epic treehouse in Nebraska. I'd really like to see that. Also New York City is supposed to be pretty cool.

(7). If you had to move to a different time period permanently, which one would you choose?
Can I also move locations? If so, ancient Greece. If not, maybe, like, the 1930s. I think I could've survived the Great Depression and been way better for it. It's always fascinated me.

(8). What if you only had to go there for one week?
Like, America during the 1870s, like Little House on the Prairie time. I think it'd be fun, but kinda boring, so I could probably only stand it for a week.

(9). A surprisingly topical debate: do you pour the milk or the cereal first?
I don't eat milk on my cereal.

(10). If you had to participate in a gameshow, which one would you pick?
Probably Wheel of Fortune. I'm not quite fast enough for Jeopardy, though I'd rather be on that show.

(11). What are the worst first names a person could possibly be given?
For boys: Harry (way too much can go wrong here), Elmer (what, the glue?), Bernard (just a nasty-sounding name)
For girls:  Gertrude (there aren't even nice nicknames for this), Prudence (sounds like "prune," forces your lips to purse in pronouncing it, and plus...who wants to be a prude?), Mildred (too close to "mildew")

My apologies to anyone with these names...>.>

My New Questions

1. What is your favorite flavor of muffin?
2. How tall are you?
3. How do you feel about tattoos?
4. What chess piece would you be? Why?
5. If you got 3 hours of sleep for 3 days in a row, how would you be acting?
6. What's your favorite mode of procrastination?
7. Do you actually read people's answers to these things, or do you just answer the questions and want people to read yours?
8. How did you feel about taking the SAT?
9. Do you know what SAT stands for {without looking it up}?
10. Have you ever been involved in unrequited love? Tell about that.
11. Let's pretend scientists just discovered aliens. What author/movie director got closest to what they're like?

11 Bloggers
No one HAS to do this, and anyone is WELCOME to do it XD I like to think I'm relatively laid back about tags, considering there's no way to enforce them anyway.

Me, as a Writer

I got these questions off Miriam Neal's blog, Wishful Thinking. I used to follow her when she was on Blogger {as opposed to Wordpress}. Now she has a book out called, "Monster." I think you can buy it online? Anyway, I stole these writing-related questions from her blog.

What was your first-ever piece of writing? I illustrated and dictated my stories to Mom before I could write myself. When I was about five, I had a series called "The Brave Little Briar" stories. Brave Little Briar was an adventurous girl like myself who liked to carry a big sword with which she fought dragons and chopped through briar thickets.

How old were you when you first began writing? I started telling stories on paper as soon as I could hold a writing implement. It got serious around...well, let's be real, I've always taken myself {too} seriously XD But I finished my first "full-length" story when I was twelve.

Name two writing goals. One short term & one long term. Short term...*thinks lots of rude, degrading, unhelpful thoughts about personal productivity and potential...clears throat* I'd like to write some every day this semester. I know that's a very small goal, and not one that will necessarily yield me a "finished" story, but right now I just need to get back into the writing habit.

A long term goal is to be a published and popular author. Yes, I said it. I'd like to receive some level of recognition. Not necessarily win an award or have my books turned into movies, but I want people to have heard of me.

Do you write fiction or non-fiction? Exclusively non-fiction, unless you count blogging and journaling.

Bouncing off of question 4, what’s your favorite genre to write in? Either fantasy or realistic fiction. Usually a combination of the two. It fascinates me when magic/the supernatural collides with the world as we know it.

Favorite author, off the top of your head! -_- Don't do this to me. Like actually. F. Scott Fitzgerald came to mind first though, so I'll go with him.

Three current favorite books. Unfortunately I haven't read any books recently that would qualify as favorites, so all these are old:  "Tex," The Farsala trilogy, and "Inkheart."

Biggest influence on your writing. I don't have an answer to this. Honestly, people I know don't influence my writing. Other authors do {like if I'm currently reading "Inkheart," my phrasing takes on a Cornelia Funke slant}, but even that fades after a couple of weeks.

What’s your go-to writing music? As a general rule, I can't write while listening to music. It distracts me. Every once in a while, though, I'll be listening to a song and *BAM!!* an idea smacks me in the face. When that happens, I put the song on repeat and go at it for hours. {Songs I can remember this happening with:  "American Secrets," by Parachute; "Safe and Sound," by Taylor Swift; "Orchard of Mines," by Globus; "Young and Beautiful," by Lana Del Ray; and "Headache Music," by Expedition.}

List three to five writing quirks of yours! Little habits, must-haves as you write, etc.
1) I hold my breath and bite my knuckles when I'm struggling to break through or writing an intensely emotional scene.
2) I get really hung up on names and point of view. I cannot be satisfied with a stand-in name, and I cannot so much as jot down a single sentence without deciding on a final POV.
3) If interrupted during a burst of inspiration, I completely deflate and become deeply furious and woefully depressed and cannot continue the story. Possibly ever again, but at least for the day.

{Wow. I'm even more high-maintenance than I thought.}

What, in three sentences or less, does your writing mean to you? Writing is a manifestation of the mental power, creativity, and acuity that I treasure. Writing is how I harness, explore, and reconcile my intense emotions. Writing is a way to inspire and persuade the public.

I tag anyone who wants to answer these :)

You're It

I was reading this tag on Ginger's blog, Quirks-and-Irks, and it occurred to me that I haven't done one of these in a really long time. Then it occurred to me that I haven't started studying for me highly-involved Western Civ midterm on Wednesday or my intense English midterm on Thursday or read any of my National Government reading for tomorrow.

So naturally I've elected to do this tag right now.

I don't know why the numbers are all weird. I'm too lazy to fix them.

46. What are your LEGAL initials? SMB

47. Who's the first B in your contacts? Barretts. My youth leaders.

48. When was the last time you laughed really hard? Well, how hard is really hard? I laughed a lot last night when Sam was naming the worst people I could possibly take to the homecoming dance.

49. Your number 1 top friend walks out of your life, do you go after them? Well, DUH. I neeeeeed herrrrrrrrrrrr.

50. Explain your last awkward moment? I described a character as a "go-getter" in Theater class and everyone laughed XD I didn't know that term was part of a song.

51. Are you afraid of the dark? No. I find it inspiring.

52. Do you have good vision? I have GREAT vision:  20/15

53. Have you ever tripped someone? Almost definitely, although I can't think of a specific instance.

54. Have you ever slapped someone? Sarah, my sister XD

55. Are you Irish? Nope.

56. Do you use chap stick? So much ChapStick.

57. Do you have any scars?  Yeah. A lot-ish.

58. Is there someone you will never forgive? Not as of yet. I used to hate several people, but I've kind of moved on. It's not necessarily that I've forgiven them, though, I've just gotten over it.

59. Are you dating the person you last held hands with? I'm pretty sure I held hands with Sarah over Family Weekend. So no.

60. Name the last person to text you? Greg, inviting me to kick a soccer ball tonight.

61. Would you marry someone 8 years older than you? It depends on how old I am.

62. Can you go in public looking like you do? Yep. I'm planning to in about thirty minutes.

63. Have you ever kissed someone whose name started with a A? No.

64. What side of the bed do you sleep on? I have a twin bed, so I pretty much sleep in the middle.

65. What's the first thing you'll do on your wedding day?  Wake up {if I've managed to sleep any} and either panic to the nearest human being or calmly begin the schedule I've created the night before.

66. Do you fall for people easily? Not even a little bit XD

67. Has anyone put their arms around you in the past 5 days? Audria hugged me Saturday night. It was inescapable.

68. Do you miss the way things used to be?  Some parts of it. I miss Sam. I miss Cassidy. I miss dance. I miss writing. I miss tanning. That's pretty much it.

Sam Questions

You know that I have a boyfriend. His name is Sam. And I get asked a lot of questions about him. You may also know that while I really like answering questions, I'm bad at emotions. That's why it's taken a written survey of questions to coax me out of my sentimental snail shell and get me to talk about Sam. But I'm apparently going to.

It's late. It's really late. And I know I've been absent for SO LONG. And this is sort of a strange way to start blogging again. You might not be able to respect this. That's fine. Read the blog description.

I never promised you anything but the hope of me becoming better XD There's always room for improvement.

Without further ado, I give you a bunch of questions about my relationship with Sam.

What’s his name? Sam

How old is he? 17

When did you meet? February 2009

Where did you meet? Driver’s ed XD We were romantic from the start.

Was it love at first sight? Nope. The first time we talked I was chilling beside a baseball field waiting for my ride to get there. He was literally chasing after another girl XD I said “Hey” in an effort to be normal and not the weird nerd girl, and he spoke back. The conversation lasted about thirty-five seconds.

When was it 'official'? April 10th. Of this year.

How'd you start dating? I mean, we were like best friends, and he'd like me this way for a really long time. Eventually I let myself like him back.

Is he your first boyfriend? Yes, actually.

Do you think you have a good relationship? I really do.

Where was your first date? I don’t know what you’d call our “first date.” The first time we went somewhere after becoming official was to see The Avengers. So probably that.

How long until you met the parents? I mean, when we met we couldn’t drive, so parents were in the picture pretty early on.

When did you have your first kiss? *chest compresses* June…29th. But neither of us could remember it for sure, so also July 2nd XD

Where was it? Both on my couches, but different couches.

What did you first slow dance to? Some horrible Taylor Swift song at sophomore prom XD

Is there anything he has done for you that he wouldn’t do for another person? I mean, probably.

Has he ever written anything for you? I hear he’s writing me a letter. But that remains to be seen ;P

What’s your happiest memory of him? I was pretty excited when he asked my dad’s permission to date me. But that’s more “excited,” not just “happy.” So…I don’t know XD We’re happy a lot. We went on a picnic on June 10th (thanks, Sarah!), and that whole thing was really fun. And last Saturday I was in a terrible mood and he cheered me up completely XD I just like doing normal things with him. Going to Dollar General. Being bored at my house. Making Ramen.

What’s the sweetest thing he has ever done for you? He does lots of nice things. More than I do. I’m terrible at sweet things. My chest spazzes out and I get all self-conscious and end up being sarcastic or just quiet. But ANYWAY. I had on heels once as we were walking down a LONG gravel driveway. He let me wear his flip-flops and walked barefoot instead.

Does he buy you lots of gifts? I’m not really a gifts kind of person.

Does he know your biggest secret? Yes.

What’s your favorite thing to do together? We do a lot of “nothing.” Which entails playing Barrel of Monkeys and halfway watching movies.

When did you know you were falling in love? I don’t know. I’ve loved him for a lot longer than I’ve been IN love with him. I don’t know when it evolved.

Who said 'I love you' first? He did.

Is it true love? Yeah.

How do you know this? It’s constant. It’s different.

What’s his worst habit?
Saying “Word?” XD

What annoys you about him? He doesn’t always take me seriously. But honestly, that’s probably for the best XD

What is your favorite part of his personality? His audacious sense of irony.

Is there something he does that you don’t approve of? Not as much anymore, I don’t think. Actually no, I disapprove of him flipping me backwards underwater in the pool.

Is there something you do that he doesn’t approve of? Watch trashy reality TV, drive 94 down country roads, love Shinedown…XD

Has he ever hurt you badly?
Definitely not physically.

Would he ever cheat? I don’t think so.

Has he to your knowledge ever cheated? Not this time around XD

Do you trust him? The only possible problem is when he lies to himself.

Have you ever cried over him? *sigh* Fine. Yes.

Is he there when you need him the most?
Yes.

Hair color? Red.

Eye color? I say they're teal.

What is your favorite part of his appearance? I like the expressions in his eyes. And his smile.

What does he smell of? I don’t remember the name of his body wash XD Something with “arctic” in it. But he always smells the same and I love it.

Whats he wearing when you picture him in your head? A green T-shirt and khaki cargo shorts. {Wow, that was weird.}

How do you feel when he holds you?
{Good god. This whole section is one big chest-contracting moment of gasp-age. Good. Lord. Almighty. *continues*} Like…intensely happy? And calm.

How do you feel when you fall asleep and wake up in his arms?
Usually I spazz out inside, but that’s just because I feel like I’ve been rude by falling asleep. Other than that, I feel the above.

How does it feel when he touches you? Like a tiny fist of adrenaline sitting in the pit of my stomach.

Does his touch give you goose bumps? Yeah.

Does he kiss your neck? Yeah.

Your tummy? No.

Your forehead? I think. Probably.

Could you be without him? Yeah. I’d rather not though.

Is the relationship getting serious? We wouldn’t be dating if we didn’t seriously like each other.

Do you think about him constantly when your apart? First of all, it’s “you’re.” Second of all, I do think about him a good bit.

How long have you been together? Like two and a half months officially.

Can you see a future together? Yes, but I also realize that we have a lot of experience to go before we’re fully matured. So anything can happen.

Would you like to get married? If it still seems like a good idea when it’s the right time.

Have children? Of course.

Where can you see your relationship in 5 years time?
I know we’ll still love each other, in some way.

Do you know there is definitely no-one better out there for you? I don’t know that yet, and he can’t know that I’m the best for him. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t the best for each other right now.

How do you know this? I didn’t answer a black-and-white yes, you automated survey question.

Are you scared he might find someone better? If he does, I’ll be happy for him. And I genuinely mean that.

Is he your best friend as well as your lover? Aside from Cassidy, yes.

Does he come first over everyone else in your life?
That’s intense. He’s way up there on the list, but, like, I have a little sister XD

Would you die for him? Yes.

Whats the funniest thing you have ever done together? Buy lots of Adventure Time apparel, maybe XD

Say something that only you two understand? Pick up Chet last.

Do you have nick names for each other? Not really. His “codename” was/is PC, so I’ve used that like four times.

Does he make you laugh?
Is that even a question? Yes.

Do you wrestle? Kind of?

Is he ticklish?
In like one tiny spot.

Are you? Not per se XD

WHAT’S HIS FAVORITE…

Food? Steak. Swedish Fish. Potatoes.

Drink? Hm, Cheerwine?

Sport? Lacrosse, I guess.

Movie? I don’t actually know for sure.

TV Show? King of the Hill and Adventure Time.

Song? It changes.

Past time? Burning Sand 3? :P Music, hanging out with friends.

Thing about your personality? He likes that I’m intelligent XD

One of your features? He’s told me he likes my eyes, but I don’t actually know what his favorite is.

Animal? Penguin

Color? Red

Aftershave? I don’t know XD

Clothing style? Like…comfortable? Purple things :P

Band? It changes. But I feel like it's been at different times Dinosaur Jr., Foo Fighters, Fallout Boy…

WHAT’S YOUR…

Song? I guess it used to be “Such Great Heights,” but I don’t know that we have one this time. Do we?

DVD? Tangled? XD Adventure Time.

Place to hang out? Pretty much my house.

Meal to cook together? Ramen XD

LAST…

Time you saw him?
Forty minutes ago.

Kissed him? An hour and a half ago XD

Spoke to him? Five seconds ago.

Text he sent you? “...what?” XD

Fight? We don’t really fight. We do argue, but it’s not really ever a big deal.

WHEN WILL YOU…

See him again? I don't know.

Speak to him again? In five seconds.

Tell him you love him again? I don’t know.

HAVE YOU EVER…

Spent the night together? Nope.

Been on holiday? Nope.

Met his parents?
Yup.

Made him cry? Not this time, I don’t think.

Done anything spontaneous together?
Probably.

Is this love? I’m pretty sure you asked that already. But yes.

Are you both happy? Yes.

What is your favorite song by 9?
Probably Can't Take It.

How did you first get into 2?
{2Cellos} My friend Jesse mentioned them, and then when I was at a youth rally I saw a video of them.

How did you first get into 3?
{Relient K} Hm. I think my dad just brought home a CD of them when I was like eight and he and I got really into them.

What is your favorite song by 4?
{As I Lay Dying} Dang. It's between Forsaken and I Never Wanted, however, I don't know as much of their stuff as I'd like to. I'm working on it.

How many times have you seen 9 live?
{All-American Rejects} Again, none XD

What is a good memory concerning 10?
{KoRn} Um? XD Well, one time when I was listening to Chi, Sarah thought some of the lyrics had "bluebird" in them. I'm still not sure how she got that.

Is there a song by 8 that makes you sad?
{Florence} Hm. Not really.

What is your favorite song of 1's?
{Linkin Park} Cheat? Papercut, Hit the Floor, Easier to Run, Breaking the Habit, Numb, What I've Done, Valentine's Day, Leave Out All the Rest. It is SO HARD for me to pick favorite songs. They all mean different things at different times, and some songs mean more at different times... *sigh*

How did you become a fan of 10?
{KoRn} Sam.

Alright, I'mma give this to the guys: Jay, Aaron, Sam, Jordan, Jamie, Late Phoenix, and any other guy reading this.

Sam, I know you don't blog, but you mentioned starting. So. Start.

Eleven Again

Hey! So, Shena at Pens, Thespians and Words tagged me with the Eleven tag a while back. I actually already did this tag HERE, but Shena's questions are really fun, so I'm going to answer them anyway :)

1: What is your favorite book? This is very hard. I usually cheat whenever I get that question and give three or four {or ten} books. But this time, I'll say... "A Thief in the House of Memory." It's probably not my FAAAAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!!!, but I really liked it a lot, and I've never mentioned it here before.

2: Have you ever traveled to another country? If you haven't where would you like to go? I have :D I've been to Spain, France and Italy. Italy was definitely my favorite. I love the food, culture, history and people. It's also incredibly beautiful. But I've always wanted to go to Greece and Ireland.

3: What is your favorite genre of music? Ooh. It depends, but I'll say metal{core} and Celtic. And punk. And whatever Florence + the Machine is. Okay, so aside from country and rap, I like whatever is good XD

4: What is your favorite hair color? I love black hair, but I wouldn't look good with it.

5: Do you like YouTube? Eh. It can be really helpful, but a lot of times it's a time-sucker and can lead you to a lot of crap XD

6: Which fictional characters have you had crushes on? If you haven't which character is your favorite? Oh jeez. *wince* I just made the list, and it's almost embarrassing. I'm pretty sure I've had more fictional crushes than real ones. Actually, I'm definitely sure.
Jack Swigert {NOT fictional, but when I was ridiculously young I had a crush on the Kevin Bacon version of him in Apollo 13.}
Legolas ~ LotR
Anakin Skywalker ~ Star Wars
The Thief Lord {Scipio} ~ The Thief Lord
Dustfinger ~ Inkheart
John Sager ~ On to Oregon
Aragorn ~ LotR
Murtagh ~ Eragon
Eragon ~ Eragon
Johnny Tremain ~ Johnny Tremain
Edward Cullen {Oh, bite me. ...HAAAAAAAAAA XD} ~ Twilight
Emmett Cullen ~ Twilight
Jace Wayland ~ The Mortal Instruments
Fang ~ Maximum Ride
Will Herondale ~ The Infernal Devices
Batman

7: If you could have a lightsaber, what color would you want it to be? Green.

8: What Jedi/Sith would you be in the Star Wars universe? I'm not sure. *goes to find a quiz* Alright. So, I'm 75% Luminara Unduli. I have no idea who that is... Shena? Help? :3 Second is Anakin. Nice... Obi-Wan is dead last. Hm.

9: Do you like anime? If so, which is your favorite? I do, but I haven't seen nearly enough to be a real fan. I like the Naruto I've seen...

10: What is your favorite thing to learn about? I really love ancient Greek and Egyptian culture.

11: Who is your favorite superhero? NANANANANANANANA. Guess. Or read THIS if you can't XD

Thanks, Shena! Those were fun!

Irresistable

{HEY! Remember when I said I'd been chosen to be a columnist for the Miss Unlimited Website? If you don't, you can click here or just go directly to the introductory post on the MU website that went up this morning :D My post goes up on February 15th, but starting on the 6th you'll get to read posts from other teen bloggers who have been selected. The website is still growing, so we'd all appreciate if you would spread the word to teen girls you know who might benefit from it :) That is all.}

Apparently I am Irresistible.

Okay, so it's the Pandora blog that has been named irresistible, if you're into splitting hairs and being technical.

Thanks, Shena!

The rules are simple.

1) Post seven random facts about yourself.
2) Award ten other bloggers.

1. I hate posting random facts, because random facts sometimes evolve into the most interesting posts, and by blowing all my facts in a list, I feel like I'm wasting valuable thoughts.

2. But I'm still very flattered that Shena awarded me :D It made me really happy, so I suppose it's worth wasting thoughts.

3. That didn't make sense.

4. Ahhhhhh, I'm cheating so baaaaaad{ly}.

5. I love the idea of water. Mermaids, swimming, diving, doing flips under water are all extremely beautiful, desirable things in my head. But in reality, water sort of scares me. And I can't do an under water flip.

6. I dislike the color orange. But I have orange fingernail polish that I love.

7. I try to take the intention of awards seriously, in that I'm not going to give this to you unless I think your blog is Irresistibly Sweet. {So, like, Aaron and Jay, don't get your hopes up.}

So, now I will tag...

Elizabeth, because she's one of the few bloggers who knew me before Pandora, and she's stayed as kind to me as ever. That makes her blog Sweet.
Anna, because her blog layout is Sweet in a cute-yet-definitely-mystical way. I love it.
Katie, because she's Sweet and real and her blog title is beautiful {Beauty Like a Kaleidoscope}.
Furree Katt, because...okay, seriously? Go to her blog and you'll see why I don't have to be specific. She and her blog are both seriously Sweet.
Miss Raquel, because she recently posted about The Hunger Games and bowties. Sweeeeet.
Sara, because she has a Sweet voice and rocked it at her school's talent show!
Mary, because her last few recipe posts have literally been Sweet.
Ginger, because she recently gave her blog a makeover that is completely Sweet.
Tela, because her blog is called "Normal's Overrated." She totally gets it.
And last, Gabrielle and Addie, because they are two of the sweetest bloggers out there. I love their blog and their story.

Book Tag

{This tag was stolen from Shena a while back :3}

{Btw, the girl I had in mind when I wrote Cynic just broke up with her boyfriend. I strongly disliked the chica anyway, so even though I know it's horrible, my inward emoticon went "IN YO' FACE!" when I found out. >.< I have got to work on not being a jerk.}

1. Favorite childhood book?

{I interpreted “childhood” to be like 10-12} The Thief Lord, On to Oregon, Homeless Bird

2. What are you reading right now?
I just finished “The Year of the Hangman,” which is a story about what could have happened if the British had won the Revolutionary War. {That’s what it’s supposed to be about anyway.} I’m about to start "Midnighters," which sounds fascinating and it's by Scott Westerfield, so I'm excited.

3. What books do you have on request at the library?
None. But I have about twenty that I want to eventually read.

4. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
Green Angel, The Year of the Hangman, and Midnighters.

5. Do you have an e-reader?
Not really. My family shares a Kindle, but I haven’t gotten into it. I thought I would LOVE having one available, but I pretty much never use it.

6. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
It depends. I used to read like three at a time all the time. Now I usually go with one new book and one old, comfortable book at a time.

7. Can you read on the bus?
I usually get carsick when I read on the road.

8. Favorite place to read?
Anywhere. If it’s a good book, nothing will stop me.

9. Do you ever dog-ear books?
No. No. No. No. NO. I used to, really badly. But now just a turned down corner makes me cringe.

10. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
Hm. Occasionally. But usually only in school books, and ALWAYS in pencil.

11. What makes you love a book?
The characters must be complex and likable; the plot must be well-planned and reasonably unpredictable; it can’t have unnecessary filler.

12. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
When it has all the aforementioned!

13. Favorite genre?
Fantasy, probably, but it’s hard to find fantasy books that I love anymore. I’m definitely over the whole paranormal-romance thing. I enjoy new spins on old ideas, like redone fairy tales and behind-the-scenes historical fiction.

14. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
If it was a bad book, I give it a bad review. Charlie don’t care if a book has sensitive feelings.

15. Favorite Poet?
Dr. Seuss, John Milton, Shakespeare. I’m not very familiar with poetry, but I can tell you for sure that I love and respect those three XD

16. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?
I usually go to the library once a week and check out two books. With school, that’s about as many as I can hope to finish in a week, if that many.

17. How often have you returned books to the library unread?
Almost never.

18. Favorite fictional character?
Heh, I just did this for a college application :D
Hector, “The Iliad”
Aragorn, “LotR”
Samwise Gamgee, “LotR”
Jason Bourne, the “Bourne” trilogy
Batman
Anne Shirley, “Anne Shirley”
Darth Vader
Hamlet
Betsy Ray, the “Betsy” series
Lois Lane
Tex, “Tex”
Tessa, “Infernal Devices” trilogy
Will, “Infernal Devices” trilogy

19. Favorite fictional villain?
Darth Vader probably. His cold, clever, calculating manner is just great. The best kind of scary.

20. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?
Whatever ones I’m reading, plus something from the “Lily” series, and possibly a “Farsala” book.

21. The longest I’ve gone without reading.
Like…16 hours? XD

22. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
Everything On a Waffle, Sea of Trolls, and Shadow of the Wind. I’m still holding out hope for all of them, though. One of these days…

23. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
If I’m not really into a book, anything. If I’m really into a book, nothing.

24. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?
Lord of the Rings trilogy, Harry Potter films, The Chronicles of Narnia. The Hunger Games looks promising too, especially since Suzanne Collins {the author} wrote the screenplay.

25. Most disappointing film adaptation?
Eragon. That movie was a disgrace to filmmakers and story-tellers everywhere and should never, ever be mentioned in the same breath as the book. {EVER.} Inkheart was also an unmentionable atrocity, and Ella Enchanted didn’t follow the book at all. However, it was actually a good movie, just a different story, so that’s alright. Eragon and Inkheart sacrificed accuracy for…absolutely nothing.

26. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?
If it was unbearably tedious.

27. Do you like to keep your books organized?
Alphabetically.

28. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
What a question! Keep them! I’ve only ever given away one book, Wicked Lovely. A lot of people liked it, so okay, but I thought it was terrible.

I tag anyone who wants to do it. Let me know though, and I'll come read your answers :D

Dear You...

So, Sweet Pea tagged me the other day with this really fascinating new tag:

Write a letter beginning with "dear you" and only using pronouns. Then tag people.

Dear you,

This letter already sounds funny to me because who else could I be writing to? I mean, if you're reading it, I'm obviously addressing you... Anyway.

How's life? Where are you? Are you in college? You'd better be. We better still share principles and standards and dreams and such. If you aren't in college, there had better be a damn good reason.

Assuming that you are, what are you majoring in? {I love how the first thing I ask you about is school...we're so sad sometimes.} I'm going to guess philosophy is in there somewhere...or maybe not. I've heard you either LOVE it or HATE it, so it could have gone either way for you. Maybe you're taking a lot of English, considering the whole writer thing. Or even history, because frankly that got a lot more fascinating the last couple of years of high school. Tell me poli-sci still the in the picture. It has to be. Even if you never become a lawyer, it's so right up your alley. Take it.

Anyway, enough about school. Have you, you know, met anyone special? I pretty much kind of, like, really super sort of totally hope you have. Because I'm a little bit worried about you. But just a little bit, really. I mean, high standards are GOOD {and I don't want you lowering them}, but at the same time, you have a pretty narrow definition of an acceptable guy. Don't get me wrong, I like the definition a lot, I'm just worried about you actually finding someone to fill it.

Sorry, I'm depressing you. OR maybe I'm making you laugh! Maybe you've found an amazing guy who's smart and witty and good-looking and hilarious and good at arguing and a Christian and everything. Maybe right now you're rolling your eyes at me for being so worry about you. I hope you are. I really hope you are.

Let's see, what shall I ask you abut now that the basics {school and boys} are covered? Writing? How's that going? Please keep it up. Remember how many people tell me that I have a gift? Well, I'm starting to give a little bit of credence to that, like maybe you need to use writing seriously in your life. Don't forget that. Just because I'm younger doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about--and so does everyone else. WRITE.

And don't lose touch with your friends, okay? I know you have trouble with letting people go, and sometimes you just cut them off completely when you feel them slipping. Try to find a happy medium there, if you haven't already. There's a place between clinging tragically to your old friendships and completely burning the bridges. My friends are important to me, and I insist that you treat them with respect. Remember how close I am to them?

Last, don't lose sight of the man upstairs. Considering I can't use his proper-noun-name, I'm going to assume you're still bright enough to figure that one out. Remember how he watched over me when I was across the pond? That was huge. He has even bigger plans for you than I do, or even you have for yourself, and his are infinitely better. Like, literally. So listen, think, act, all that good stuff. Es muy importante.

So yeah. I guess that's it. Read, write, keep up with your love of metalcore and languages, notice your elf ears, be smart about tattoos, and read labels for peanuts.

Yep. That about does it.

In case you were wondering, this letter is from me to 20-year-old Stephanie, just three short years from now. Um, yikes.

Let's see...Jay, Philosophia, Psycho Babbling Basher? You wanna have a go at this?

mewsik

So sort of stole this tag from Elizabeth because it looked AWESOME. {Yeah. Awesome. I'm tired and I have a headache, so that's as good an adjective as you're gonna get.}

List ten musical artists BEFORE reading the following questions. Don't be lame and ruin it for yourself.

So okay. Ten artists.

1. Relient K
2. All-American Rejects
3. Ke$ha {hey, why not?}
4. Evanescence
5. Shinedown
6. Linkin Park
7. dc Talk
8. As I Lay Dying
9. tobyMac
10. Eminem

Mkay. Now for the questions, which I have honestly not looked at yet. I haven't even read Elizabeth's answers. I'm just THAT...awesome.

1. What was the first song you ever heard by number six?
{Linkin Park} "Papercut." I was twelve. And Linkin Park was SECULAR MUSIC OMG.

2. What is your favorite song by number eight?
{As I Lay Dying} "Forsaken" probably.

3. What kind of impact has number one had on your life?
{Relient K} Oh wow, this is the perfect question for them. Relient K has probably impacted my life more than any other music group. They have songs for every occasion. They introduced me to witty lyrics, songs about a God that seemed REAL, and Thunder Cats ;P Songs like "Which to Bury, Us or the Hatchet," "Devastation and Reform" and "Be My Escape" put my feelings into words when I couldn't. Songs like "For the Moment I Feel Faint" and "Who I am Hates Who I've Been" are songs that grew with me, their meaning becoming deeper as I grew older. Their love songs seem truer, their sad songs seem deeper and their fun songs seem funner than almost any other group I know.

4. What is your favorite lyric by number five?
{Shinedown} "When you lie like the devil himself, no angel's gonna hear your cry for help."

5. How many times have you seen number four in concert?
{Evanescence} Um. Zero. *sob*

6. What is your favorite song by number seven?
{dc Talk} Right now, it's a three-way tie between "Say the Words," "Supernatural" and "Sugarcoat It." {Apparently I love "S"s. As I should XD}

7. Is there a song by number three that makes you sad?
{Ke$ha} Umm....no :P

8. What is your favorite song by number nine?
{tobyMac} Okay, not counting the ones where he's with dc Talk...I love "No Ordinary Love," "All In" and "Face of the Earth."

9. How did you first discover number two?
{All-American Rejects} Oh. Hm. How DID I discover them? Well, I RE-discovered them when the Almost Alice CD came out. They sang "The Poison" and I loved that.

10. How did you first discover number three?
Ke$ha? The radio XD I haaaaaaaaated "Your Love is My Drug," so I thought I hated her. Then "Tik Tok" came out and I was like "Oh. YEAH."

11. What is your favorite song by number four?
{Evanescence} Probably "Bring Me to Life." I know, it's everyone's favorite.

12. Is there a song by number eight that makes you sad?
{As I Lay Dying} Not exactly. Pretty much no.

13. How many times have you seen number six live
{Linkin Park} Ughhh, nooooone :(

14. What is your favorite song by number one?
{Relient K} Seriously? Do not get me started. Oh wait. You did. {FAAAAVORITES are bolded.}
Be My Escape
Come Right Out and Say It
Failure to Excommunicate
Maintain Consciousness
For the Moment I Feel Faint
Life After Death and Taxes
My Girl's Ex-boyfriend
Pressing On
Up and Up
What Have You Been Doing Lately?
Which to Bury; Us or the Hatchet

15. How did you become a fan of number ten?
Honestly? *sigh* >.< A friend mentioned that he was hott in a FB status. I know. That's PATHETIC. But I had to Google him then, and he WAS hott, so I started paying special attention to him. Then I saw him on 60 Minutes and fell in love. He's so REAL. And he's actually really smart and amazing with words. He raps about life and makes sense of it. I just love him.

Awesome. I'm done. Now I tag, let's see...

ALL OF Y'ALL. Ha.

I'm so tired, guys.

Darren

Thanks for following, Polka Dot and Samarah!

First off, I stole this tag from Lily and the picture from Cassie Anne XD

Character tags are my favorite, being a writer and all. Basically what you have to do here is come up with a character {or use an existing one} and answer the following questions about him or her. Eaaasy.

{Character Tag}
1. What is his/her full name? Darren Arius Blackburn-Lonwyn {Hey, you said FULL. He only ever goes by Darren Blackburn though.}

2. Does his name have a special meaning? *gasppp* I have never, ever done a tag that asked this question. I can't believe this! Name meanings are SO important to me, but I never have a good place to talk about it. Sweet. "Darren" means "small great one."

3. Does your character have a methodical or disorganized personality? Well, he's a teenaged guy, so how methodical can he be? XD Generally, he's a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants type, but when the situation calls for it he can cowboy up and make a pretty good plan.

4. Does he think inside himself more than he talks out loud to his friends? (more importantly, does he actually have friends?) Darren is an out-loud thinker. Even if he doesn't necessarily want people to comment, he works things out better when he can hear himself. He definitely has friends. He was always the "popular" type.

5. Is there something he is afraid of? He doesn't like being out of control. Whenever he's in a position where he can't do something or when someone else is calling the shots, he gets uneasy. His biggest fear is somehow causing someone he loves to be hurt. He beats himself up about things.

6. Does he write, dream, dance, sing, or photograph? He does not. He's the athletic type.

7. What is his favorite book (or genre of books)? He doesn't read a WHOLE lot, but he enjoys it when he does. He like action-suspense type books, or books about wars.

8. Who is his favorite author and/or someone that inspires him? He's always found soldier stories inspiring: men who showed courage in the face of danger and pulled through while staying loyal to their country.

9. Favorite flavor of ice cream? He's not picky, but Moose Tracks is a favorite.

10. Favorite season of the year? Spring. He loves baseball.

Anyone who wants to do this, have at it. And lemme know so I can come read it :D

{Like, Love, Hate}

Thanks for following, Dandalily :) Right now Blogger is being stupid and not letting me follow you back. But don't worry, I'm gonna keep trying.

Speaking of Dandalily, I got this tag from her. I'm not sure I understand the rules 100%, but basically, here it is.

Fill in 12 likes, 1 love and 8 hates. The bold things are what you must include. Tag three people and link back to them, as well as link back to me.

I like boys with strong principles and girls who aren't judgmental.
I like
nightmares.
I like feeling needed.
I like waking up to bright sunlight.
I like making lists.
I like going to restaurants where you can color on the tablecloth.
I like being scared with other people.
I like finding patterns in the stars.
I like talking late at night when everyone is too tired to care about "awkward."
I like going to bed a little bit hungry in the summertime.
I like swimming in the lake.
I like feeling like I have lots of brothers and sisters.

I love feeling like myself (I'm gonna have to steal that one, Dandalily. It's perfect.).

I hate Satan.
I hate people who aren't in touch with reality.
I hate being ganged up on.
I hate when people lie to me.
I hate being suuuuuper full.
I hate the part of me that struggles with addiction.
I hate touchy-feely, but in a way, it's sometimes nice.
I hate being trapped.
I hate when people refuse to admit they're wrong.

Kinda cool :) I'll tag anyone reading this. Let me know if you do it so I can come read yours.

~Stephanie
